Corporate yoga has its place in our offices. And with good reason: although work is a source of fulfillment, in many cases it can also be the cause of stress, physical and psychological suffering, and even, for some, exhaustion or burn-out.
As we saw in our article on stress in the workplace, in Switzerland, almost half of those under stress say they are emotionally exhausted at work. That’s why many companies have chosen to adopt yoga to improve their Quality of Life at Work (QWL).
Would you like to know more about the benefits of yoga in the workplace? Let’s take a look in this article.
Reduce stress
Several studies have shown that yoga and meditation can relax the nervous system and thus have a direct impact on stress and anxiety.
The various postures, breathing and alternating fast and slow movements are excellent ways of stimulating the parasympathetic system and calming the body and mind. In our group classes, our certified yoga teachers are there to help you reduce your stress.
Thanks to breathing exercises, you’ll learn to react more calmly, because you’ll be less overwhelmed by your emotions. This practice will give you the confidence to express yourself more clearly and dare to take more decisions in your daily office tasks.
After group yoga classes in the workplace, employees say they feel more relaxed and sleep better. During the sessions, attention is focused entirely on the body and breathing, in the “here and now”, which is a form of meditation.
Improve posture and reduce RSI
The term “musculoskeletal disorders” (MSDs) covers a range of illnesses localized at or around the joints. These pathologies affect muscles, tendons and tendon sheaths, nerves, bursae, blood vessels, joints and ligaments around the joints of the upper limbs, spine and lower limbs.
Thanks to the exercises and work on postures, regular yoga practice in the workplace can alleviate or even eliminate back pain and problems linked to poor posture, such as in front of the computer. It helps you avoid a sitting posture and helps de-stiffen your body. Yoga also improves strength and stability by strengthening the joints.
This activity helps prevent many occupational illnesses, such as RSI, and promotes better physical health.
Improve concentration
Lack of concentration leads to poor physical condition, fatigue, lack of energy and an inability to relax and recharge. This will make you less efficient and less self-confident. You’ll be wasting your energy! That’s why concentration is one of the key elements to be worked on to promote well-being at work.
During yoga sessions, you take the time to listen to your body, your attention is constantly drawn back to the breath and your ability to concentrate is developed.
Hatha yoga (classical yoga), which is one of the yogas practiced in Samaé corporate group classes, brings together all forms of yoga. The aim is to perform a sequence of different postures. With, of course, different levels of postures. This means that everyone can practice it on the job.
Its particularity is that the postures must be maintained for a relatively long time. This encourages concentration while developing flexibility, coordination and agility.
Boost energy and productivity
As we’ve seen, yoga helps you concentrate better. But it also opens the mind so that creative flows and energy can circulate. This significantly increases employee productivity.
Relaxed, focused employees are more productive and profitable. Offering yoga classes in the workplace (or office, or outdoors) can help enormously. It’s an inexpensive way to keep employees happy and productive, and give them a real boost of energy!
